Mining Days in Kamloops

Quadra’s Mining Team participated in a fantastic event ‘Mining Days’ in Kamloops last week in the Little Big Science Centre.

This is an interactive event where children are invited to do hands on learning about the mining industry. There was “bird seed mining”, gold panning and we had them learning about flotation using marshmallows.

Quadra ran the ‘sugar table’ and the children and parents loved it. Science through marshmallow included marshmallows playing the role of “air bubbles”, a muffin cup “flotation tank cell”, candy sprinkle “minerals” and specialty reagents “chocolate and caramel sauce”. (Yes it was sticky and no it did not get as messy as you would think!).
